How Can I Carpet Clean Pet Dander?

Pet dander (dead skin cells) and other animal allergens such as cat saliva come from all household pets. In addition to cats, animal allergens can also be found on dogs, birds, hamsters and guinea pigs. Most people believe that the allergic reaction comes from the animals fur, and that shorter hair animals will cause less allergic reaction. In reality, the allergic reactions that people experience with there pets comes from proteins secreted from the animals oil glands. This oil is deposited on the animals skin. That old skin is shed and becomes airborne, contributing to poor indoor air quality and may cause allergic reactions such as rashes, breathing difficulties, watery eyes, coughing and dizziness.

What Can I do to Reduce Dander in the Home?

Allergies to pet dander can take up to two years to develop and may not subside for six months or more after contact with the pet is removed. Obliviously the most effective solution is to remove the pet from the home. People become very attached to there pets and consider them a member of the family, so this is not always a viable solution. There are, however, some steps and precautions that you can take to reduce the amount of dander and the associated allergic reaction it causes.

     1. Keep pets in only one area of the home.
     2. Never let pets into your sleeping area and keep the door closed.
     3. Bath your pet regularly to remove dander and saliva from the skin.
     4. If possible, keep pets on a hard surface, and off carpets and furniture.
     5. Vacuum carpets and furniture regularly with a HEPA (High-efficiency particulate air) filter.
     6. Have your carpets cleaned in Dallas by Collin Creek Chem-Dry

How should I Clean the Carpet and Upholstery?

Pet dander is very small and remains airborne for long periods of time. This is why it has such a large effect on the indoor air quality of your home. The dander eventually settles, and most of the time, on your furniture and carpets.  Pet dander is very sticky and difficult to remove. One of the most effective methods is to use a hot liquid suction method of upholstery and carpet cleaning. Hot liquids have been shown to remove up to 99% of pet dander in carpets. One of the most effective methods of dander removal from both carpets and upholstery is the Chem-Dry method of hot carbonating solutions.

Let  Collin Creek Chem-Dry solve all of your carpet and upholstery cleaning needs in Dallas. We are ready to serve you.
